Description

The iVac® System is designed for use during the irrigation phase of root canal treatment and is preferably connected to a piezo ultrasonic handpiece. The system was developed around three fundamental principles established by endodontic research for effective root canal irrigation and disinfection.

The first principle is ultrasonic vibration, which enhances the chemical activity of irrigating solutions through transient cavitation and microstreaming effects. This creates a chemical-mechanical cleaning action capable of reaching difficult-to-access areas within the root canal system.

The second principle is negative pressure irrigation, which directs irrigating fluid from the pulp chamber toward the apical limit while minimizing the risk of extrusion beyond the apical foramen.

The third principle is continuous irrigation, where irrigating solution is constantly replenished. Continuous fluid replacement helps maintain optimal chemical activity by consistently introducing fresh solution into the canal.

The iVac® System combines these three irrigation concepts into a single device, providing effective canal disinfection while reducing the risk of irrigant extrusion into periapical tissues. The system includes an aspiration and activation cannula available in two outside diameters: .35 mm and .50 mm.

The iVac® ultrasonic connector is engineered to securely hold the cannula, properly deliver irrigating solution, and transmit vibration from the piezo ultrasonic handpiece. Tubing and connection components also allow integration with a standard vacuum outlet to provide negative pressure functionality.
